What Mileage Is Too High for a Used Car in Lewisville, TX?
Check Your Used Car
Start with a basic vehicle inspection before your trip. Check the engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Look for signs of leaks under the vehicle. If a maintenance service is due, schedule it before traveling.
Inspect the Tires and Brakes
Proper tire condition is important for road-trip safety. Check the tire pressure and adjust it according to the recommended specifications. Inspect the tread for uneven wear or damage. You should also have the brakes checked if you notice squeaking, grinding, vibrations, or reduced stopping performance.
Test Important Features
Make sure the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, windshield wipers, and air conditioning work properly. Test the battery and inspect the windshield for cracks or chips. These checks can help you avoid unexpected problems during your trip.
Pack an Emergency Kit
Prepare an emergency kit with a first-aid kit, flashlight, jumper cables, phone charger, water, basic tools, and roadside assistance information. Keep a spare tire, jack, and tire-changing tools in the vehicle. If you are traveling with passengers, pack enough food and water for unexpected delays.
Plan Your Route
Review your route before leaving. Identify fuel stations, rest areas, and charging locations if you drive an electric vehicle. Download maps or save directions for areas with limited cell service. Share your travel plans with someone you trust.
